San Juan College is excited to introduce the TrailBlaze Cupboard! A welcoming space where students can access free food, hygiene items, and support services. The cupboard helps students break barriers and build success. No student should have to choose between education and essentials. Students at San Juan College now have access to an on-campus resource that will support success through nutrition and food security. This is all part of the food for thought program at the college. The goal is to fight food insecurity and make sure people are talking about the problem.We’re here to support you and connect you with helpful resources like SNAP, ECHO, and other community programs so you can stay focused on your goals.Several resources coming from the cupboard will include nutrition education, meal vouchers, holiday and emergency food boxes, hygiene supplies and referrals.

Last year SHEO paid approximately $9000 out in utility assistance for our community, helping numbers of residents find jobs, and created budgets and spoke about money management to over 140 families. The Bloomfield Seniors non-profit organization strives to contribute to their community through various youth work programs, service learning, volunteerism and educational scholarships. The organization conducts fundraising throughout the year to contribute to these and many other aspects of community involvement that promote senior living and the betterment of the community around us.
The Senior Center serves lunch Monday - Thursday from noon - 12:45 pm.

The Socorro County Senior Services Program offers services to local seniors such as congregate meals, home delivered meals, transportation, assisted transportation, homemaker services, chore services and senior recreation opportunities.
Senior Volunteer Programs:
- The Socorro County Senior Volunteer program gives seniors ages 55+ the opportunity to utilize your skills in our community.
The Foster Grandparent volunteers provide one-on-one support to those children with special and/or exceptional needs. The Foster Grandparent Program offers volunteer opportunities to low-income senior citizens 60 years of age and older. The volunteers are provided a $2.45 per hour stipend as to allow them to provide their services at no cost to themselves.

The NMSU-A Food Pantry is a resource for food at NMSU-Alamogordo. The Pantry is open five days a week.

Located in the Classroom building room 202, which is located across the Hall from our Campus Directors office noted as AD on our campus map.
Fresh Food Friday
Food is available every day that the pantry is open. Fresh food such as fruit, vegetables, milk, and eggs are available on the last Friday of every month.
Students, staff and faculty will need to provide a photo ID and their Aggie ID number. This can be done by providing your NMSU-A Campus ID card.

Loaves and Fishes, Inc. is a commodity supplemental food program serving Tularosa and based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Loaves and Fishes provides food for seniors in the community through free food distribution programs. The organization operates as a food service to ensure that seniors have access to nutritious meals.
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides a monthly "box" of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutritious food to supplement the diet of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age who are at risk of malnutrition. CSFP is funded by the USDA through the New Mexico Human Services Department. CSFP provides for warehousing, certification of eligible participants, inventory control, and food distribution.
Loaves & Fishes, Inc. CSFP serves Tularosa on the second Wednesday of every other month from 12:30PM to 1:30PM at the Tularosa Senior Center, 35 Radio Road
Only applicants 60 years of age and older may qualify for the program. The monthly income qualifications for individuals per household can be found in the table below. Applicants must live in Otero County in order to qualify for the program.
A photo ID and physical address are required and must be provided before receiving the distribution.
Seniors must also provide proof of income verifying they are at or below the federal poverty guidelines.

Services Provided: Economic Council Helping Others, Inc. provides numerous services to low-income
individuals and families in San Juan County. These services include the following:
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) - assists income qualified seniors 60 years or older, monthly,
with nutritious foods, basic nutrition information and recipes. Also, Senior Care Kits for Incontinence are
available.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) - is provided monthly in emergency food boxes for all San
Juan County residents with low-income. Some types of Food Boxes are Food and Nutrition (Fan) monthly special
diet boxes. These are provided to individuals on specially prescribed diets (such as medically fragile, diabetes,
etc.), for persons who cannot qualify for other programs. (Please provide a letter from your family doctor, proof
of physical address, proof of household income and a Picture I.D). Holiday Food boxes – Merry
Christmas/Thanksgiving food boxes are available during holidays. (Please bring your Picture I.D for adults and
proof of physical address). Also bring any other legal document for minors, proof of physical address &
household incomes.

The Human Services Department (HSD), Income Support Division (ISD) administers several programs to help people with low income and limited resources purchase food products. ISD helps with benefits like SNAP and EBT.

The Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is now offering Electronic Mobile and Shopper card benefits up to $50 to senior adults (over age 60) for Non-Native American and senior adults (over age 55) for Native American, who live in New Mexico, to buy locally grown fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and honey from select farmers’ markets, mobile farmers’ markets, and roadside stands across the state. Benefits are given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. Between February 15, 2024, and September 15, 2024, or until benefits are gone, whichever happens first; to apply go to: soilportal.com

The Talpa Community Center is proud to host a weekly Friday market from 7:30 am-2:00pm for neighbors to buy fresh fruits and veggies, as well as support local agriculture. Located in Taos, DreamTree Project offers emergency teen shelter, a transitional living program, street outreach, and resources for youth throughout northern New Mexico, including Colfax, Mora, Rio Arriba, Taos, and Union counties. Our new NEST facility offers emergency shelter and supportive services for adults and families in our community who are experiencing housing insecurity.

The WIC program aims to help low income and nutritional at-risk women, infants and children. Though federally funded, each state manages their own WIC program. This includes determining the WIC eligibility requirements, provide benefits, services and determining what foods WIC participants can purchase using their voucher/checks or in some cases, their EBT card, at WIC authorized food stores.

Socorro Consolidated Schools participates in the School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. SFE offers several hot entrée selections and side dishes daily from our Culinary Creations. Our Executive Chefs are already hard at work creating nutritious, made from scratch recipes to add to your schools’ menus.
