As a student enrolled in credit courses, you can receive care and treatment for a wide range of non-emergency and minor illnesses without charge for the clinic provider visit. From treating acute illnesses like coughs and minor cuts to offering preventive care such as annual physicals and family planning, the Health Center has got you covered.
Services
- Minor acute illnesses: such as sore throat, cough, rash, sprain/strain, minor cuts/scrapes, urinary infections
- Preventive care: annual physical exams, referral for preventative/cancer screening, family planning (limited to pregnancy tests, STI screening {lab send out with insurance}, oral contraceptives & Nuva ring prescriptions {sent to pharmacy}, emergency contraception).
- Wellness: health risk assessment through medical history and lab testing, lifestyle management and education
- Disease Management: episodic care for and management of stable chronic conditions such as asthma, obesity and hypertension *(please note that these conditions and medication management thereof should be managed by your Primary Care Provider on a regular basis)

San Juan Safe Communities Initiative, Inc. (SJSCI) is a non-profit corporation working in northwestern New Mexico with the goal of making San Juan County a safe place to live for all of its residents. SJSCI began in 2006 and earned 501(c)(3) non-profit status in June 2007. Our mission statement expresses our devotion to a safe community by enhancing the efforts of community groups that are addressing societal issues.
San Juan Safe Communities Initiative has joined Youth Homelessness Demonstration ,HUD and MFA funding allows for us to house 11 clients between the ages of 18 and 25. Services provided: Inpatient Programs are structured to meet the mental health and chemical dependency concerns
that are troubling adolescents. Our acute care programs provide stabilization for those suffering from
disruptions in their daily lives due to emotional, behavioral and/or substance use disorders. Patients receive
individual treatment in areas such as: medication management and education, case management, recreational

The facility provides a time-limited medical detoxification program designed to assist the persons
suffering with the physiological effects of acute withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs. Inpatient, Residential or
Ambulatory Care. Staff motivates the individual to continue with an inpatient treatment program, after their
discharge. Lesson to help them to progress toward a full and complete recovery. The program is adequately staffed
to ensure biomedical and psychosocial assessment, observation and care, and referrals to meet the individual’s
needs. We offer a distinct program that provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services. The program
operates 24/7 for the purposes of providing a safe, monitored, and managed detox treatment. The typical stay is 3-713
days. The medical staff includes a Physician, PA, a Registered Nurse, and Medical Technicians.

The Nurturing Center is housed within Enos Garcia Elementary, Ranchos Elementary, and Penasco Elementary and provides students with school-based services such as Social and Emotional Support, Connection to Counseling services and other community services and activities focused on building positive relationships. The Nurturing Center also provides family navigation services, financial assistance, kinship guardianship assistance, and housing services like assistance with Section 8 and system navigation to obtain housing.

Holy Cross Hospital’s Emergency Department is staffed with skilled physicians, nurses and other medical practitioners who specialize in emergency medicine. Our physicians are board certified in emergency medicine, offering the knowledge and experience to handle any emergency.

Corrections Programs Serving Northern New Mexico Since 1984
Our Programs offer sentencing alternatives to incarceration for Adult/Juvenile offenders in Northern New Mexico
To provide a viable alternative to long term incarceration in both the Adult and Juvenile State institutions which are available to the Courts, New Mexico Juvenile and Adult Parole Boards and both the Juvenile and Adult Probation offices.

The Las Cumbres Behavioral Health Program offers an array of trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment services to address child traumatic stress and promote psychological resilience in children ages 6+. Therapists are skilled at working with children and youth who are struggling with multiple stressors and traumatic experiences. In addition, we offer our Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health therapists have received specialized training in trauma-informed, evidence-based therapies for families with children ages prenatal to six. Lastly, the Santuario del Corazon Program offers Bilingual/bicultural support to immigrant children and families in Northern New Mexico via trauma-informed mental health services and connections to resources such as transportation, housing, translation/interpretation, food assistance, legal assistance, and childcare.

Retreats for Veterans and their Partners.
Established in 2009, the National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center was designed to assist with the healing of our Nations Veterans and their partners who are struggling with Post Traumatic Stress, Military Sexual Trauma, and Moral Wounding.
The natural setting of northeastern New Mexico is the perfect location to bring participants to experience optimal healing. The Veterans and their partners will encounter a week of camaraderie with their brothers and sisters, as well as a staff of extraordinary therapists and alternative therapy practitioners. These retreats are only possible with the help from our generous donors and grant funding.

Recovery-Friendly Taos County (RFTC) was formed in 2012 in accordance with a larger national and statewide effort to create Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC). The goal is to foster a recovery-positive environment that welcomes those that are new to recovery into the community, capable of providing meaningful assistance as they seek to transition from a life dominated by substance abuse or mental health issues to a stable, lasting, self-motivated recovery. Recovery-Friendly Taos offers peer support from staff with lived experience. Services include assistance with job training and placement, applications for services such as housing and SNAP benefits, food and hygiene.
