• The Navajo Nation Growing In Beauty program (GIB) meets the needs of Navajo children with delays or disabilities from birth to five years of age while honoring the unique culture and language of the Navajo people. Receiving and processing referrals from pediatricians, health care professionals, and other service providers.Types of service that may be provided are based on needs and preference outlined by the individualized plans. These plans may include the following: service coordination, linkage to other services for family needs, vision and hearing services, specialized instruction or special education, nutrition services, diagnostic evaluations, family training, counseling, and advocacy, other family support and respite services, occupational and physical therapy, speech and language therapy, diagnostic evaluations and developmental assessments, assistive technology, education on independent living, and transportation services.

We offer up to a year (on a case by case basis) of on campus housing to those who desire to become financially independent through full time employment, learn healthy coping skills while addressing the trauma of violence, work on obtaining the necessary skills to break the cycle of violence. Our support system has:

The primary purpose of the Child & Family Development Center (CFDC) on the campus of San Juan College (SJC) is to serve as a laboratory school for early childhood, nursing, psychology, dental and sociology students at the College. Practicum students in early childhood education courses are part of the Center staff each semester. They are supervised by qualified teachers to plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities for young children.

The secondary purpose of the CFDC is to provide child care and early education services. The Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NAEYC accreditation recognizes programs that comply with nationally recognized criteria for high-quality early childhood programs. The CFDC is licensed by the State of New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department.

The New Mexico Workers' Compensation Administration's (WCA) mission is to assure the quick and efficient delivery of benefits to injured workers at a reasonable cost to employers. The WCA works to maintain a balance between the interests of workers and employers, and maintains jurisdiction over most New Mexico businesses.

Project Shield is committed to helping developmentally disabled adults in San Juan County live more meaningful lives. The goal is to provide individuals with the greatest opportunity to learn, grow, and explore their communities. Project Shield assists individuals with disabilities to increase economic independence, self-reliance, and growth within a career. Based on the individuals' career plan, they will work with a job coach during the job search process, the application and interview process, and job improvement and growth. We provide job coaches, transportation, assistive technology, and specialized job training.

Our Programs

As a benefit to our community, the Community Van provides convenient and reliable transportation to adult patients ages 18 and up, free of charge. We are not able to transport children.

At this time, the van will be scheduling rides for San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan Health Partners patients. All transports must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by calling 505.609.2240. Pickup times are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Reservations for the van are scheduled on a first come first served basis by calling 505.609.2240. Please schedule a ride at least 24 hours before an appointment, though availability is not always guaranteed. Appointments are accepted in advance.

The 180 children (grades K-8) that attend Mosaic Academy are a student body of diverse backgrounds, cultures and ethnicity. They live in San Juan County, New Mexico, and are enrolled through parent application and a lottery system. There is a consistent waiting list of 65 to 100 children, depending on the time of year.
Mosaic Academy is not a special education school, but welcomes children with special needs. Approximately 26% of the students receive special education services, and nearly half of the student body is eligible for free/reduced price lunch as economically disadvantaged.

Mosaic Academy Charter is a charter school located in Aztec, NM, which is in a mid-size city setting. The student population of Mosaic Academy Charter is 179 and the school serves K-8. Community Service is another part of the Vista Nueva experience with projects occurring every year since the inception of the school.

The Central Consolidated School District is in the heart of the beautiful Four Corners region of San Juan County in the northwest corner of New Mexico. It borders Colorado to the north, Arizona to the west, and Utah to the northwest.

The District, which serves approximately 6,000 students in 15 schools, plus early childhood preschools, covers nearly 3,000 square miles. It is part of the New Mexico Public Education Department's public school system.

The District serves the communities of Kirtland, Ojo Amarillo, Newcomb, Naschitti, and Shiprock, New Mexico. There are eight elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, and one alternative high school, as well as the preschools.

The District has two 798 seat performing arts centers: The Phil Thomas Performing Arts Center in Shiprock and the Brooks/Isham Performing Arts Center in Kirtland. It also operates the Dine Bi Community Library in Newcomb.

There are many nearby outdoor recreational opportunities including the San Juan and Animas rivers, Navajo Lake, Mesa Verde National Park, Aztec Ruins National Monument, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, and plenty of hiking, mountain climbing, rafting, and skiing in the San Juan Mountains just one hour away.

Bloomfield Schools' attendance area covers approximately 1500 square miles. There are seven schools which house approx. 3000 students. Approximately one-third of the students are Anglo, one-third Hispanic and one-third are Navajo. All schools are accredited by the State of New Mexico.

Aztec is located in the northwest corner of New Mexico in the beautiful San Juan River Basin, a rural community just south of the Colorado border. The Aztec Municipal School District (AMSD) serves students in pre-school through grade twelve. The district is located in the "Four Corners area" where New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona meet. We have a diverse student population of approximately 63% Anglo students, 22% Hispanic students, and 13% Native American students. The City of Aztec is the county seat of San Juan County and our economic base is tourism, coal, oil, natural gas production and agriculture. The district employs over 200 certified staff members and a support staff of more than 150 to provide transportation and educational services to our students.  Our family oriented district is one that is grounded in professional learning communities where everyone has a job title, but their main role is to improve student learning for all students. It is an All In, All the Time mentality because we know that every day is important when it comes to educating our students.

Cooperative Extension empowers rural and urban communities of all sizes to meet the challenges they face, adapt to changing technology, improve nutrition and food safety, prepare for and respond to emergencies, and protect our environment. The San Juan County Extension Office houses four County Agent positions to assist community members. Bonnie Hopkins Byers, County Program Director and Agriculture Agent assists farmers, ranchers and community members through distributing information on all requests aspects of agriculture—from livestock to gardening. In addition, Bonnie assists with local food system development programs and strives to educate our community on best practices in regards to Agricultural Business. Rick Griffiths is our Family and Consumer Science Agent, and assists community members on aspects that occur in and around the home—from personal fiancé to emergency management. The office also has two 4-H Youth Development Agents, one of which is temporarily vacant awaiting an upcoming hiring process. Zane Webster is dedicated to assisting the youth of San Juan County, helping them put knowledge and leadership to work in our community through nearly 300 youth projects.

Childhaven’s mission is “Lifting Children from Crisis to Hope.” We have been serving the San Juan County (SJC) community for 50 years, addressing issues of child abuse and neglect. In that time, our organization has grown from one program to six and from a yearly client population of 225 children to 1,028 children and parents to meet an increased community need for vital child victim services.
